5 Good Reasons to Start a Blog for your Small Law Firm

blogs-wwwAs blogs become increasingly popular in the legal community, there are still a number of solo and small firm attorneys that have not taken the leap. Before long, it will become more difficult for attorneys to justify not having a blog for their practice. And, I suspect that it won’t be long before clients are nudging their attorneys into the blogosphere.

In case you’re one of the small firm attorneys, sitting on the fence reluctant to invest in a blog, I’ve compiled a list of 5 reasons you should:

1. Connect with existing and potential clients

Through your blog, you can connect with both existing and potential clients. You can blog about breaking news in the legal industry, as well as laws and precedents that could potentially affect how you represent your clients. Not only can you engage your clients through your blog, you can also solicit comments from them. Blogging gives you more ways to stay in contact and communicate with your clients.

2. Share your opinion and ideas

Everyone has an opinion. And, from time to time, we all think of a good idea that’s worth sharing. Your blog is a great place for you to share your opinions on issues that may affect the legal community, your law practice, and your clients. You can also engage your readers, through your blog, and encourage them to share and discuss their thoughts on various issues and trending topics.

3. Market your  legal services online

As a small firm attorney, your marketing budget probably isn’t as big as your larger counterparts’. Years ago, that created a huge problem for solos looking for affordable ways to get the word out about your firm.. Enters the blog – one of the most cost-effective ways to market your legal practice and promote your services and products online.

4. Build credibility

Blogging can help you build credibility when you blog consistently on topics that affect your target audience. This will help you establish yourself as an expert in your area of practice.

5. Connect with Like-Minded People

Naturally, people are drawn to others that understand their “pain,” as well as those they can relate to. This is also true for potential clients. As you share more of your authentic self on your blog, you may find that you attract like-minded people into your world that you can later convert into paying clients.

There you have it…5 compelling reasons you should start a blog for your small law practice!

Steps you can take:

If you already have a blog and are looking for a legal marketing assistant to help keep it updated with fresh content (content that will actually reach your target audience and not just float into the blogosphere), lets discuss my blog ghostwriting and marketing services.

Even if you love to write and have ample time available to update your blog, a marketing assistant can research keywords and potential topics for your blog. An assistant can also help you find effective ways to repurpose your blog posts using social media, bookmarking and other online tools. (We’ll talk about that more in a future blog post :) .

If you don’t already have a legal blog up and running, but are interested in launching one in 2010, contact me! I have a fabulous graphic designer / mompreneur that I work with. Together, we can design a professional, attractive and fully optimized Wordpress blog site and tailor it specifically to your law practice.
