Hire a Virtual Paralegal or a Temporary Agency?

by Vickie Perry Barker

This is a question many overwhelmed attorneys are forced to answer when they have a paralegal out for an extended period of time or the workload shoots through the roof unexpectedly.

Traditionally, attorneys have been known to rely on temporary agencies to fill their need for legal support services. But with the growth of the virtual assistance industry,  more attorneys are hiring virtual paralegals and living without the pricey agency fees.

Virtual paralegals work as partners (rather than employees) and have a vested interest in the success of your law practice. Their success is measured by yours!

  • VP’s provide ongoing support and develop long-term relationships with their clients.
  • A temporary paralegal is usually a part of your firm for a limited time.
  • A VP supports you and your in-house team of associates, paralegals and secretaries.
  • When you hire a temporary paralegal, you have to pay pricey agency fees.
  • When you outsource to a VP, you’re not responsible for taxes, benefits, office space, equipment or training.

Once you factor in the temporary agency fees, office space, equipment and training a temporary paralegal can cost you substantially more than a virtual paralegal.
